- Finland has decided to construct a fence along 260 kilometres of its 1,300-kilometre eastern land border following measures already taken by its neighbours Norway and Estonia.
- As a pilot project, a fence of some three kilometres will be built around the border control posts in the southeast of the country.
- Obviously, the fence would not stop any invasion, but rather, according to border authorities and politicians, it would have a control and steering effect in case of an influx of people trying to enter Finland.
